The movement looks like it could use an overhaul - stains on the plates, and there's either rust or a thick layer of filth on the crown wheel. If you have a presentation Doxa watch with a date on it- good for you. By the way, the lume on the dial and hands is radium, so that's yet another reason why you shouldn't do it by yourself. Pre-1940- if the serial does not follow the 7-digit pattern, and the watch is equipped with an Aurore-Villeret 110 movement (wristwatches) or an FHF with modified bridges (pocket watches), just the decade of manufacture will do. Unless you have any experience with that, do not attempt to fix it on your own. The watch looks authentic, and dates to 1944 (as you've mentioned). I'd say take it to a watchmaker - if the calibre number is not under the balance, the dial will have to be taken off to examine the dial side of the baseplate for markings, and if none are present, it will have to be identified by matching the shape and layout of the keyless works. Mostly you'll see the cal.110, but this is larger, so I would say that it's most likely a derivative of the 10.5''' Aurore-Villeret cal.232. Our advice would be to contact a local auctioneer for a full appraisal.Click to expand. The general layout of the movement suggests an Aurore-Villeret ebauche - A-V was a major supplier to Doxa.
